The 24th Annual Home and Garden Show will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 17 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at the Hopkins County Fairgrounds Ballard Convention Center.
The show will feature exhibits ranging from windows and doors, gutters, trusses, garage doors, security systems, cabinetry, flooring, cookware, grills, pools, spas and garden equipment. Students from Madisonville-North Hopkins and Hopkins County-Central high schools will be selling vegetable and garden plants at a 10 percent show discount. HCCHS consumer science students will be cooking and offering food for sale.
There will also be free tree seedlings, fire safety house tours, free prizes including a chance to win Kenny Chesney concert tickets and an outdoor living/cooking package valued at $1,800 sponsored by Lowe’s and the Home Builders Association Registered Builders. Admission tickets gets the attendee two free tickets and extra tickets are only $10 each.
Informative seminars including how to become a “handywoman” with practical home maintenance instruction on topics such as fixing a leaky faucet or a running toilet, how to deal with sticking windows and how to turn off water or gas supplies at home in case of emergency will be at 6 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday. Other seminar topics include “Use It the Way it Was Intended,” about using handheld outdoor equipment safely at 4 p.m. Friday; “Things You Should Know Before They Happen,” how to physically and safely maintain a home at 10 a.m. Saturday; and, “Making Your Handheld Equipment Last,” about learning to maintain items such as a string or hedge trimmer, chainsaw or leaf blower at noon Saturday.
Admission is $5 per family (limit two adults) or $3 per person with children 6 and under for free.
The event is sponsored by the Hopkins County Home Builders Association, which will have builder members available to answer construction question and provide ideas about building or remodeling.
